One of the best ways to decrease harbor congestion and air pollution is to use trains rather than trucks to move cargo. That is why we support the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) proposal to build a rail terminal a short hop from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

BNSF, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, employs 40,000 people nationwide and moves more intermodal traffic than any other rail system in the world. It transports enough coal to generate more than 10% of the electricity produced in the nation. BNSF is also North America’s largest grain-hauling railroad and carrier of plastics, building and construction materials, and consumer goods.
In 1995, Burlington Northern (BN) combined with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway to create BNSF. This historic merger created one of the largest railway companies in the world, and today it operates 32,000 route-miles of track in 28 states and two Canadian provinces.
BNSF IN CALIFORNIA
BNSF Railway employs more than 4,300 people in California who work aboard trains throughout the state and at six major intermodal facilities (three each in Northern and Southern California).
