One of the best ways to decrease harbor congestion and air pollution is to use trains rather than trucks to move cargo. That is why we support the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) proposal to build a rail terminal a short hop from the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

BNSF Participates in Upcoming Conference on Goods Movement and the Environment


BNSF Railway is proud to be a sponsor and active participant in the Faster Freight, Cleaner Air Conference being held January 30-February 1. This conference showcases solutions and resources to improve operations and reduce air emissions from the goods movement industry while creating healthy communities.

This year, FFCA will be held at the Long Beach Convention Center adjacent to the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, together the nation's largest gateway for the import and export of cargo. Prominent speakers scheduled to attend include California State Senator Alan Lowenthal, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Long Beach Mayor Beverly O'Neill and Dr. Alan Lloyd, Secretary, CalEPA, as well as other political, civic, environmental and community leaders.

BNSF Assistant Vice President Mark Stehly will participate in a panel entitled "Setting the Framework: Challenges Faced by Goods Movement Stakeholders" on Monday, January 30. Rob Reilly, BNSF's General Manager for the LA Division, will speak on "Plans to Meet Increasing Demand, Reduce Emissions and to Relieve Rail Congestion" during a breakout session on Wednesday, February 1.
