BNSF RECEIVES “BUSINESS OF THE YEAR” AWARD FROM WILMINGTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

In March, BNSF Railway was recognized for its excellence in business leadership by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce at its fourth annual Spring Gala. BNSF Railway was honored with the 2008 Business Development Award, highlighting the company’s commitment to the Chamber, the greater Wilmington community and to the environment.

More than 175 people attended the event, including Los Angeles Councilwoman Janice Hahn and Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin, both of whom support the Chamber’s mission to promote and enhance a positive business environment and improve the quality of life in the community. The Chamber was proud to bestow this award on BNSF in recognition of the civic involvement and support the company has shown over the years. In recent years, BNSF has contributed to various community organizations in the Wilmington area, including the Port of Los Angeles High School, San Pedro and Peninsula YMCA, Gang Alternatives Program, the American Diabetes Association, Boys and Girls’ Club of Los Angeles Harbor, and the Beacon House.

“BNSF, without question, is setting the mark for the railway industry,” said Pat Wilson, president of the Chamber of Commerce and president of Fast Lane Trucking, in presenting the award. “Their proposed Southern California International Gateway facility would eliminate millions of truck miles annually, operate at 90 percent less emissions than traditional intermodal yards and provide good paying jobs with a commitment to hire locally first. They are committed to bringing the finest intermodal facility to our community the railroad industry has ever created.”
